The ensemble of the folk dance - "Jok", formerly, the State Ensemble of the Folk Dance of MSSR, from 1955 - the "honoured ensemble" (a title), was created in August 1945. The director and chief choreographer is V. Curbet (from 1958). The ensemble is the keeper and continuator of the ancient traditions of the Moldovan popular choreographic art. The repertoire of the ensemble consists of folk, ceremonial dances, choreographical suites and pictures as well as the dances of the different peoples of the world. The dances and music of "Joc" is full of originality, cheerfulness and brilliance and "Joc" is fairly considered to be one of the best ensembles of the world. This ensemble is the reiterated prize-winner of the international competitions.
