Architecture photosThe Organ Hall
On the odd side of Stephen the Great Boulevard, at the corner with Vlaiku Pyrkalab Street is one of the most beautiful Kishinev buildings, unscathed by World War II. It was built in the beginning of the XX century by engineer M. Cherekuli-Kush for the city bank. The building is notable for its monumental forms in the
style of classism with some elements of romatism; it is formed with 4-column
porticoes of Corinthian order from the sides of the main and side fronts.
It distinguishes with the integrity of its image, strict proportions,
thorough designed sculptural details. The shape of dome and sculptural
groups favours to the expressiveness of the building. The main entrance
to the Organ Hall was formerly crowned by the sculpture of God of trade
- Mercury. In 1978 the Organ Hall was opened in this building, where Czech firm Riger Closs installed the organ with 40 registers and 3 000 pipes of splended sound. The auditorium for 500 places is decorated with 10 columns. Outstanding composers' sculptural portraits are symmetrically placed in its bays and two roomy lobbies. The interior amazes with its magnificence, the hall is lit with unique crystal candeliers.
